A Visual Poem  is a new art form, a collaborative installation on stage or screen which seeks to explore, express and ultimately expand the human spirit. A Visual Poem is both classic and post-modern in its approach to dramatic storytelling. At the most basic level, it is the age-old combination of words and music in songs or accompanied poetry. At its most complex, it is a collage of mediums from stage to film; a sampling of forms from ballet to music video; and a mixture of styles from mask to modern dance. Most importantly, a Visual Poem is a piece that examines the meaning of life by simultaneously posing a question and listening for the answer.

THE PROJECT

My current project is a visual poem entitled LIGHT OF TRUTH. In LIGHT OF TRUTH, we see a visual artist capturing a truth about the nature of human conflict on canvas. We see the artist as the harbinger of higher consciousness and the historian of the human experience, as she lives truth and re-lives truth. The movie in the artists' mind chronicles a journey that begins as she explores a new way of living in a universal world. In this world there is an internal process of rediscovering who you are as a tribal-individual caretaker, responsible first for yourself, second for your brother, then for your neighbor and his/her neighbor. In both pieces there are the questions asked and the question waiting to be answered, how do we human beings become the caretakers of this planet that we were intended to be?

The first installment of LIGHT OF TRUTH, The Woman Within, is an expression presented through three mediums; video, slides and live performance. Told through the individual, the artist looks at the world and examines the questions of who she is in this life and how she connects to the world around her.

The second installment, LIGHT OF TRUTH- What is the Answer? Continuing the collage format, this piece is presented on film with slides and video. What is the Answer? allows us to see the world through the eyes of several artists. As a collective of individuals they live in a world which appears oblivious to the divine inspiration of artistic expression. This expression, in multitude form, is inherent in all human beings and is as integral to living as breathing.
